Tilke Designs Track, Chooses Libya As Location
Aachen, Germany German Formula One track designer, Herman Tilke, recently revealed of a new project and a new F1 round. In a recent interview with Aachen newspaper the Aachener Nichrichten at a local McDonalds, that they have been given the green light by the Libyan government to procede with design and costruction of a circuit in the North Central African region. The track will be state of the art as we have all become accustomed to expect from Tilke Group GmbH. "This track will be nothing like you've ever seen before" Tilke said. "It will incorporate many of the sections of track that are beloved in the United States".
The crude rough draft that Tilke, penned on his McDonalds napkin. Shows the Turns 1,2,3 section of Road America, the Corkscrew of Laguna Seca going into the Keyhole of Mid-Ohio. He does add his typical fast straightway into a hairpin like, COTA, Hockenheimring, Malaysia, Sepang, and others. The legendary Sebring International Raceway even get's a nod on the "S" section before the front straight. When asked about the civil unrest in the area, and his opinion Tilke responded "That's above my expertise, I design tracks, and I'm no where qualified to discuss International issues." When pressed once again about the same issue he said "I'm hoping my track, just like as it does in Bahrain, shows the people of Libya a good time"
We reached out to Bernie Eccelstone for a comment and he replied "Follow my Twitter for further comments." The track is slated for a very aggressive timeline of being open by 2015, with the V8 Supercars being the debut race. The just outside of Tripoli site hand picked by Tilke's firm and intern's working for Eccelstone, is a varying array of terrain, that's predominantly desert. The project mainly being funded by Libya's oil money, is being heralded by the locals as a "giant waste of money", but they can't wait to see "Lewis Hamilton stick it to that little brat Vettel in the corkscrew". A WEC round is also in the works for 2016.
